Who We Are
Medallion Oil Company was founded in July 1963 by H. S. "Hub" Finkelstein at Houston, Texas. It was started when four separate companies were consolidated into one company for efficient operational purposes of exploring and producing oil and gas. Revenues from the different oil and gas ventures enabled Hub Finkelstein to establish and develop the other Medallion and Manchester Companies. The current companies that are oil and gas related businesses include Medallion Oil Company, Mesuda, Ltd., and Finkelstein Partners, Ltd. which are members of the Medallion Group.
After the consolidation, the Company bought oil and gas production and developed production projects primarily in the Gulf Coast of Texas. Additionally, it developed exploration ventures in Tennessee and Texas.
One of the exploration ventures, the Laredo Eocene Lobo Gas Trend, Webb and Zapata Counties, Texas, was established by Medallion Oil Company through new and innovative engineering and operational techniques in the drilling and completion of gas zones previously not produced. Over 250,000 acres were assembled to explore and produce oil and gas. Over four thousand producing wells have been drilled in the trend. Development of the properties is still ongoing thirty years after the discovery of the trend. As a result, the Laredo Lobo Trend is one of the largest gas producing areas in the State of Texas and the United States.
Medallion Oil Company has continued pursuing exploration and production projects and has conducted exploration, drilling and production operations in the states of Arizona, Colorado, Louisiana, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico and Texas. Not only has the Company operated its own projects, but it also has been the operator and manager of joint ventures with both major and independent oil companies.
Operating and managing of ventures included the acquisition of oil and gas lease rights, acquisition of geophysical data, interpretation of geologic and geophysical data, drilling and completion of wells and operating producing wells. The Medallion Group currently have working and royalty interests in over 1250 producing oil and gas wells.
Medallion Oil Company has investigated and participated in oil and gas projects in the foreign theater including the countries of Australia, Belarus, Belize, Chile, Columbia, Egypt, India, Ireland, Israel, Mongolia, and Philippines. Medallion Mongolia Company received one of the first production sharing agreements from the country of Mongolia.
